The 6-point title checklist
Run every title idea through these questions. The tool’s “Test my title” box does it for you.
Does it signal the genre? A reader should guess the shelf from the title alone.
Is it easy to say and spell? People recommend books out loud.
Is it short enough for a cover? Most strong titles are one to five words; subtitles carry the rest.
Is it searchable? Check that it does not bury your book under a famous title.
Does it promise something? A mood, a question or a hook.
Does it still fit after the ending? Some of the best titles gain a second meaning by the last page.
Can I use a title someone else used?
In the US, book titles generally cannot be protected by copyright, so two books can share a title. A famous series name can be protected as a trademark, though, and sharing a title with a bestseller makes your book hard to find. Search the title on online bookstores before you commit. This is general information, not legal advice.
Anime book name generator: light novel titles
Choose the “Light novel / anime” genre for Japanese web-novel style titles. They are often a full sentence explaining the premise, like I Woke Up as the Village Blacksmith, So I’m Forging a Dragon’s Armor. Fans then shorten them into a nickname. Tips from published authors
Pull a line from your manuscript. Many classic titles come from a phrase inside the book.
Use your setting if it is unusual: a place name can carry a whole mood.
Use your character’s name or role if they are the hook.
Test with readers. Show three titles and ask which book they would open first.
