Why private usernames matter: if one site is breached, attackers try the same username (and password) on other sites. A different random username per sensitive account makes that harder. Password managers like LastPass and Bitwarden offer username generators for exactly this reason.
How to use the username generator
Pick a mode: Creative or Private.
Creative: add one or two words you like (a hobby, an animal, a colour) and pick a style.
Private: set a length and turn on “easy to say” if you need to read it aloud.
Choose a platform to check the length and allowed characters.

Username rules to know
Every platform sets its own limits on length and characters. Discord usernames, for example, are lowercase and allow underscores and periods, while Instagram allows periods and underscores up to 30 characters. The tool checks the rules for the platform you choose. Rules change, so confirm in the app before you commit.
Privacy tips for usernames
Don’t put your birth year or full name in public handles. Both help strangers find you.
Don’t reuse your gaming handle for email or banking logins.
Use a password manager to store private usernames along with passwords.
Check old accounts. If an old handle reveals too much, rename it or close the account.
