How to use the MHA quirk generator
Choose a side: hero, villain or vigilante.
Pick a quirk type or leave it random.
Set the power level. Support quirks make great side characters; Top-10 quirks suit a main OC.
Generate. Read the drawback first; it is what makes a quirk feel canon.
Re-roll only the hero name if you like the quirk but not the name.
Quirk types explained
In the world of My Hero Academia, about 80 percent of people have a quirk, a power that usually appears by age four. Quirks are commonly grouped into three types, and the generator uses the same split:
| Type | What it means | OC example from our generator |
|---|---|---|
| Emitter | the user releases or controls something outside the body | Static Bloom — grows flowers of electricity that shock on touch |
| Transformation | the user changes their body for a time | Ironbark — skin hardens into wood armour, but the user cannot bend joints fully |
| Mutant | the user is always changed, often with animal traits | Owl Sight — night vision and silent movement, but blind in bright sunlight |
My Hero Academia OC quirk ideas: what makes a quirk good
The best quirks in the series are simple to explain and have a clear limit. Our generator builds every quirk with four parts:
One clear power. “Can store kinetic energy in objects and release it later.”
A physical drawback. “Stored energy leaks if the user is distracted.”
A creative use. “Charges coins and flicks them like bullets.”
A growth path. “Later learns to store energy in the air itself.”
Ten ready OC ideas, all original:
Echo Step (Emitter): leaves afterimages that can each take one hit.
Glass Lung (Mutant): breathes underwater, but struggles in smoke.
Cartographer (Emitter): sees a live map of any building they touch.
Rewind Ink (Emitter): anything drawn becomes real for ten seconds.
Gravity Lace (Emitter): ties invisible threads that pull objects together.
Heat Mirror (Transformation): reflects fire, but absorbs cold.
Molt (Mutant): sheds damaged skin and heals, then sleeps for an hour.
Crowd Voice (Emitter): speaks through any speaker within 50 metres.
Paper Wing (Transformation): arms turn into folded paper wings; rain grounds them.
Lucky Coin (Emitter): one coin flip a day always lands on the side they call.
Hero name for an MHA OC
In the series, students pick their own hero names in class, and many are puns, English words or a twist on the quirk. The generator suggests three hero names per quirk:
| Quirk | Hero name ideas | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| Static Bloom | Voltflora · Spark Garden · Bloomstrike | mixes the two images of the power |
| Ironbark | Timberwall · Heartwood · Bastion Oak | sounds protective |
| Owl Sight | Nightwatch · Hush · Strix | short, mysterious, owl-linked |
Villain mode gives darker names (Splinter, Blackbloom) and vigilante mode gives street-style names (the Nightshift, Patch).
Your OC’s real name
Every hero also has a civilian name. The tool adds a Japanese real name with kanji meaning that quietly matches the quirk, the way the series often does. A heat quirk might get 炎谷 Enya (“blaze valley”), a plant quirk 森野 Morino (“forest field”).

Tips for a believable MHA OC
Drawback before power. If you cannot say what the quirk costs, it is too strong.
Think about the family. Quirks often mix traits from both parents.
Give them a goal: a hero ranking, a debt, a rival.
Avoid a second One For All. Fans dislike OCs that steal the main plot.
