How this anime name generator from your name works

Step 1: your real name in Japanese (katakana)

Japanese writes foreign names in katakana, the script used for words from other languages. This is how your name would appear on a Japanese ID card, in a manga credit or in an anime cast list. Japanese learners and teachers agree on this. Writing a foreign name in kanji is not the normal way, even though gift shops sell “your name in kanji” keychains.

How English names change when written in katakana

Why your name sounds different: Japanese syllables mostly end in a vowel, and some English sounds do not exist in Japanese. So consonants get a vowel added (Mark becomes Māku), L becomes R (Lisa becomes Risa), and long sounds get a dash (ー).

Step 2: your anime name by meaning

An anime name is more fun when it means the same thing as your real name. The tool looks up the meaning of your name and finds a Japanese name with that meaning:

Your nameMeaningAnime nameKanji
SophiawisdomSatomi聡美 (wise + beauty)
LucaslightHikaru光 (light)
NoorlightHikari光 (light)
Gracegrace, blessingMegumi恵 (blessing)
Hamzastrong, steadfastTsuyoshi剛 (strong)
Felixlucky, happyYuki幸 (happiness)
Ayeshaalive, full of lifeAi愛 (love) — closest feel, not exact

When there is no exact match, the tool says so and picks the closest feeling instead of pretending.

Step 3: your full anime character name

Finally the tool adds an anime-style family name to make a complete character: Hoshino Hikaru (star field + light) or Kirishima Satomi (mist island + wise beauty). Family name comes first, as in Japanese.
